When it comes to robot vacuums, it’s no longer just about suction power or battery life. The latest generation of smart cleaning devices is now tackling one of the most persistent challenges in home automation: physical obstacles like thresholds, rugs, and uneven floor levels. A newly launched model even takes it a step further — by literally lifting itself to overcome barriers up to 6 centimeters high.

Over the past decade, robot vacuums have gained massive popularity, but many households still face frustrations with devices getting stuck on thick carpets, door thresholds, or floor transitions. That might soon change. The latest devices not only offer improved cleaning performance but also much more versatile movement and obstacle management.

At CES 2025 in Las Vegas, Dreame unveiled its flagship X50 Ultra robot vacuum, packed with several headline-grabbing innovations. Chief among them is a retractable leg system, which allows the device to climb over obstacles as high as 6 centimeters — a significant leap from previous models that often struggled with anything over 2–3 centimeters.

Powered by Dreame’s newly developed ProLeap technology, the X50 Ultra’s wheels can lift up to 4.2 centimeters while dedicated moving legs automatically deploy to handle common floor level changes in homes. This is particularly handy in spaces where hard floors and thick rugs alternate from room to room. According to Dreame, the X50 Ultra is designed for up to 30,000 cleaning cycles, offering one of the longest lifespans in its category.

The vacuum’s navigation system has also received a substantial upgrade. The VersaLift 360-degree scanning technology, combined with AI capabilities, can now identify obstacles with greater precision. The system integrates multiple sensors, including 3D scanning, an RGB camera, dual laser mapping, and an AI-powered LED camera for accurate, real-time mapping.

As a result, the X50 Ultra builds a detailed map of your home on the fly, while users can track cleaning progress live through a dedicated mobile app. The app also allows homeowners to assign different cleaning intensities to specific zones, offering greater customization and control.

The X50 Ultra handles both dry vacuuming and wet mopping duties, working seamlessly across hard floors, tiles, and thick carpets. Its retractable mop pads and side brushes ensure thorough cleaning in corners and along walls, while the intelligent leg system ensures smooth transitions between different floor types.

Dreame didn’t stop at indoor cleaning. At CES, the company announced its plans to venture outdoors with the launch of its new robotic pool cleaners — the Z1 Pro and J1 — designed to automate and simplify pool maintenance.

In short, Dreame’s latest innovations show that robot vacuums are no longer just convenient gadgets — they’re becoming agile, AI-powered household companions capable of tackling the real-world messiness of modern homes.
